Our Story

Hudson Valley Rose Bed and Breakfast, an historic country inn in lower Upstate New York, is the labor of love of two New Yorkers who had spent a combined four decades of their lives in the corporate world.

Yearning for a life change yet uncertain if they would be able to truly wean themselves off the city they have come to love after such a long time, they decided to try to have their cake and eat it too — build a beautiful and idyllic home in the countryside within a simple train ride away from New York City and share it with others who love the bed and breakfast experience, and the Hudson Valley, as much as they do.

Their multi-year journey from dream to reality took them all around the country meeting fellow innkeepers, tourism officials and organizations; to many corners of the Hudson Valley and Orange County of New York; and to the various depths of the Internet scouring for quality hospitality and tourism information, goods and services to best enhance the experience of the inn they would create from scratch.

And so was born the romantic country-rustic bed and breakfast, nestled in the shadows of the Shawangunk Mountains, amongst the rich fertile fields that have fed the area for centuries. Their idyllic getaway sits at the virtual midpoint of the 14 wineries that comprise Shawangunk Wine Trail, and is less than a 30-minute drive from dozens of farm-to-table restaurants.  Hudson Valley Rose Bed and Breakfast is less than 45 minutes from magnificent West Point, less than 60 minutes from Culinary Institute of America, and is just a stone’s throw from multiple small towns & villages with first-rate shopping, antiquing, dining and strolling.  In less than 30 minutes you’re in the Catskills Mountains, and Manhattan sits less than 90 minutes in the other direction.

And why the name? The original English estate was lovingly called “Rose Cottage Farm” by former owners and neighbors. As a tribute to its history, natural beauty and geographical location, the current owners and innkeepers have chosen to name it “Hudson Valley Rose Bed and Breakfast.”
